012819-LORD GRANT ME YOUR PEACE

The Mood Mender

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

Psalm 94:19

Today's Scripture & Insight:

As I waited at the train station for my weekly commute, negative thoughts crowded my mind like commuters lining up to board a train—stress over debt, unkind remarks said to me, helplessness in the face of a recent injustice done to a family member. By the time the train arrived, I was in a terrible mood.
On the train, another thought came to mind: write a note to God, giving Him my lament. Soon after I finished pouring out my complaints in my journal, I pulled out my phone and listened to the praise songs in my library. Before I knew it, my bad mood had completely changed.
Little did I know that I was following a pattern set by the writer of Psalm 94. The psalmist first poured out his complaints: “Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. . . . Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?” (Psalm 94:2, 16.) He didn’t hold anything back as he talked to God about injustice done to widows and orphans. Once he’d made his lament to God, the psalm transitioned into praise: “But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge” (v. 22).
God invites us to take our laments to Him. He can turn our fear, sadness, and helplessness into praise.

Today's Reflection

Lord, I pour out my heart to You. Take my hurts and my anger, and grant me Your peace.

The Success Skillsets You Need to Live the Life You Desire

Hi there,

Did you have the time to check out Your Success Skillsets Assessment I sent you last time? Some readers have already tried it and asked me what they could do with their results.

I encourage you to try the assessment yourself first, but even if you haven't had time to go through it, you can still read on to learn more about these success skillsets.

There're 7 types of people who possess different success skillsets:

Type 1: The Remember-it-all
People who score high in Memory are very good at recalling information or experiences. They have a system to store, filter and retrieve everything they have learned.

However, they lack the strategy to utilize all this information to achieve something great.

Type 2: The Always Excited

People who score high in Motivation are highly motivated. They are clear about their purposes and are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve the thing they want most.

Despite their motivation, they don't know what steps to take next to make plans, set goals and get going.

Type 3: The Attentive
People who score high in Focus know how to stay away from distractions and concentrate in what they do. This is why they can always finish work efficiently.

However, what they aren't aware of is that, their mental energy spent on trying to focus will wear down one day.

Type 4: The Disciplined Follower

People who score high in Habits know how to build routines and habits to save time and energy. They have no problem sticking to their plans.

But they lack flexibility and find it hard to use different approaches to achieve goals.

Type 5: The Innovator

People who score high in Creativity are good at thinking out of the box and can always come up with creative ideas.

However, they lack a system to keep the momentum to generate ideas and solve problems consistently.

Type 6: The Fast Learner

People who score high in Learning know how to learn in the most efficient way. They are highly curious and are willing to try anything to learn fast.

Their challenge is that they feel overwhelmed easily with all the information and knowledge they have learned, and aren't sure how to apply them best to improve life.

Type 7: The Time Master

People who score high in Time are great at time management. It's very difficult to be a true time master though, because a true time master knows how to prioritize, focus, and get everything done efficiently.

This means that they know exactly how to combine all the other skills to achieve their ultimate purpose.

Anyone who has scored 8 or above in any of these Cornerstone Skills is considered to be very good at the skill. But no matter which success skill you are most proficient in, it's not enough to achieve your goal and live the life you want.

Each of the Cornerstone Skills is interconnected, and you can only create permanent solutions to any problems in life when these skills work together. For example, at Lifehack, we've helped people with creativity issues figure out that their real problem was focus and motivation. They couldn't fix one without the other.

Here's what people are saying about the Cornerstone Skills:
Impressed! An effective way to develop fundamental skills, which changed my predefined approach to learning and working. The course is well structured and a lot of thought has been put into the order and design of the videos. I would recommend it to anyone who is courageous enough to completely re-engineer their current way of thinking.-- Christopher M., Doctor

I’ve been searching and finally found a great way to keep my self organised in this increasingly digital and fast paced life! After taking this course I feel eager to continue to apply these methods to my own life, I have a clear mental framework for how to stay organised, and I feel excited to clean out and organise my increasing amount of saved digital data. I’m very happy that I took this course!
